Why should we use our non-dominant hand frequently?

What if I tell you to use your non-dominant hand for writing or eating food or brushing teeth? I am a right-handed person. I use my right hand for writing or eating. So, my right hand is my dominant hand and my left hand is my non-dominant hand. I do not use it more often for daily activities.

Now you must be asking me why should I use my non-dominant hand when I can use my dominant hand? because when you use your non-dominant hand it strengthens your brain. Neuron connections in your brain become very strong and new neuron also grows.

Let me give you an example, when you do physical exercise, the functioning of the body muscles improves, similarly when you start using your non-dominant hand the working of your brain also improves.

You already know that we have two hemispheres of the brain. Right and left. The left side of the brain is responsible for logical analysis or logical activities and the right side is the creative brain.

In our life to accomplish any goal or to do anything we need to have a balance between these two hemispheres. If you become very much logical then you will stop using the creative part of your brain, you will stop getting new ideas or intuitive things that are there in your right part of the brain. So, maintaining the balance in the right and left side of the brain, it is very important that we must use our non-dominant hand for some activities every day.

A person who is using his right hand for most of the works, his left brain is more active. A person who is lefty, his right brain is more active. They can bring more creative ideas.

Have you ever imagined how Albert Einstein, Nicola Tesla used to get wonderful ideas? They got some intuition about their theories. Whatever theories they have given to humanity first they have got those ideas from somewhere. Here the intuitive part takes place. The creative part of the brain came into action. Though they were scientists, do not think that they always used to use their logical brain. Because their creative brain was equally active. That’s how they used to get more new ideas, intuition about their theories? Whatever theories they have given to humanity. Where do you think they’ve come from? All from their creative brain. They got some intuition before and then they started introspecting on that, they did some experiments and finally came to a conclusion.

Do you want to have some fun? Take a sheet of paper and draw some shapes and color it too with your non-dominant hand. This activity not only helps you to activate your creative brain but also improves your concentration. As you are not used to of using your non-dominant hand for coloring, so you become more aware and start paying more attention. You concentrate more during coloring. This is how you are going to balance your right and left brain.

That is the reason, we must use our non-dominant hand frequently. You can just start using your non-dominant hand in your everyday activities, such as while watering the plants or while brushing your teeth or writing or coloring.

Practice this for few months and you will observe that you start getting more creative ideas. about your work about anything. You know in today’s situation smart work is more important than hard work and how you can do smart work? When your creative brain is working faster you will be able to generate new ideas for any given situation. You will find some new way, the best way, and the easiest way. This is why we should start using our non-dominant hand more often.
